The purpose and rising use of these applications is discussed in Kiernan's (2006) article, “Toss out the index cards”. This environmental change, along with the increasing needs of researchers to publish their research findings, has hastened the use of electronic tools to manage bibliographic citations ( Budd, 2006 Muldrow and Yoder, 2009). This is even more important now that large amounts of information can be transmitted electronically, allowing users to capture, send, copy, and manipulate information to easily create new works. The importance of properly citing sources is being emphasized today due to the rising awareness of copyright, plagiarism, scientific integrity, and honesty in the academic community ( Howard and Davies, 2009 Auer and Krupar, 2001 Blum, 2009).
